Who We Were
The kids who made Ramsey Blueprint one of the best high school papers in the country
A staff of more than 30 Ramsey students published 15 issues from September 1969 to May 1970. There were more than 20 writers and editors, several photographers, a staff artist and half a dozen other kids managing the paper's business, advertising, production and circulation.
From the Nov. 17 issue on student government
What's also impressive is much of the writing. In journalism classes and summer workshops, 15 and 16-year-old kids learned how to write leads, editorials and feature stories. Some of their work is as good as most of the writing and reporting in mainstream newspapers today. Some of it is better.
As the school year ended, the National Scholastic Press Association named Ramsey Blueprint "one of six noteworthy high school publications in the country." An article in its Scholastic Editor magazine recognized Ramsey's school paper for its "provocative and imaginative coverage of events" and said "Blueprint combines the best qualities of the underground with the official high school press."
